Answer
As of the end of the COVID-19 era, India had over 1,100 universities and university-level institutions, more than 45,000 colleges, and over 12,000 standalone institutions. Despite this vast academic infrastructure, India still ranks below over 128 countries in terms of Human Development Index (HDI) and nominal GDP per capita. This is a stark contrast to two millennia ago, when India was among the global leaders in both knowledge and economic prosperity.

The gap between the quantity of institutions and the quality of outcomes highlights the urgent need for a different kind of educational institution—one that produces real impact through excellence, relevance, and outcome-driven education.
